At 69 years of age, John Farnham is showing no signs of slowing down, nor his popularity declining. At 29 years of age, emerging Melbourne cabaret and comedy artist Stephen Valeri hasn’t quite reached the dizzying heights of Farnham’s success…just yet. But he’s channelling his inner ‘Whispering Jack’ in his latest cabaret offering Age of Stephen for the final week of FRINGE WORLD 2019, celebrating Farnham’s career and the greatest hits of his extensive back catalogue.
So, why Farnham and why now? “Because he’s an absolute legend! Why should we wait till someone’s dead to celebrate them?” says Valeri. He also assures audiences that this isn’t your typical tribute show: “It’s more of an all-in, loving celebration of all things Farnsey.” While the show intertwines quirky facts from Farnham’s life and career, it centres around Valeri’s own anecdotes and crams 17 Farnham hits into an hour of fun, camp and lively cabaret, backed by a live two-piece band.
