tkay_maidzaSwitch Tape EP
Dew Process

Watch out world, Tkay Maidza is blowing up and she’s not showing any signs of slowing down. The voice behind last year’s notorious Brontosaurus is back to prove that the hype is real and has teamed up with producer Paces to deliver her Switch Tape EP.

Opening track U-Huh is a precise, attitude-driven, no-fucks-given stomper, with an infectious neon bright chorus that promises to get the crowds singing along. Switch Lanes is a refreshing future beats calypso inspired trip, coated in Tkay’s sugary sweet vocals, showing a softer side to her usual style of self-confessed brat rap. Summer vibes within – make yourself comfy on a floating pool lounge with a piña colada in hand.

The lightning quick dancehall flow of Finish Them layers relentless vocals with M.I.A style gunshots and riddim that is guaranteed to bring the rave and slay dance floors worldwide. KLP and Luke Million continue the tropical vibes with remixes of U-Huh with KLP’s interpretation adding a rather cheesy chorus whilst Luke Million reworks it into a sparkling nu-disco gem.

While it would have been nice to see more originals featured on the EP rather than remixes of the same track, Tkay Maidza never less continues to impress with MC skills far beyond her years. Combined with Paces’ smooth production, the Switch Tape EP provides the perfect soundtrack to your summer. Expect to hear these at a festival near you.
