We’ve been excited about this one for a while, but we’ve still been wondering exactly what kind of tone Marvel’s next big film, Guardians Of The Galaxy, would take. The answer, it tunes out, is “batshit insane.” Take a look:
While DC/Warners are taking the safest route possible with their superhero properties, Marvel have thrown untold millions at a largely unknown title and given it to James Gunn, a man still best known for writing Tromeo & Juliet, populated it with a comedy cast (that’s John C. Reilly and Peter Serafinowicz as the two Nova Corps guards) and decided that Andy from Parks And Recreation is the Next Big Thing.
There’s also a talking raccoon and an ambulatory tree, voiced by Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, respectively.
Whether this turns out to be good or bad, you can’t say Marvel’s resting on their laurels. Guardians Of The Galaxy hits Australian cinemas in August.
