Six years on from their break up and the huge goodbye concert at Madison Square Garden in New York documented in the film Shut Up And Play The Hits, LCD Soundsystem are well and truly back with a new double A-side. Yes, LCD fanboys and fangirls, this is really happening.
Featuring a double dose of James Murphy at his best, the single kicks off with Call The Police, a roaring call to arms that seems to have a bit of U2 about it (in a good way!)
The slower, hypnotic American Dream follows. The titles of both songs seem to allude to the time being well and truly right, ripe even, for an LCD return. As ever it’s a mix of the personal and the political and both tunes are set to bring on all the feels.
LCD Soundsystem first resurfaced in December 2015 with the Christmas single Christmas Will Break Your Heart and official confirmation they were reforming arrived with their announcement on the line up of Coachella in January 2016.
Their last album This Is Happening came in 2010 and followed their 2007 masterpiece Sound of Silver in 2007 and self-titled breakthrough in 2005. No word yet on an upcoming album but it’s hard to escape the feeling that someone great is back.
Call The Police and American Dream are out now.
