Human Buoy (ft Nicholas Allbrook)
Living up to its hefty title, Human Buoy’s latest release Anvils packs a serious punch.
This should come as no surprise, given the killer one-two combo of Ben McDonald’s outer-space sonics and Nick Allbrook’s spaced-out vocals.
But according to McDonald, this musical marriage made in heaven was born out of necessity rather than some sense of cosmic destiny. Having attempted the vocals himself, he soon realised that the song could only be served by a bona fide space oddity. Enter Nick Allbrook, Pond’s resident astral adventurer, whose delightfully off-kilter vocal stylings push the song beyond the conventional frontier.
Lyrically, McDonald has pointed out, the song is inspired by Stephen King’s magnum opus The Dark Tower. And like King’s series, Anvils, along with the rest of Human Buoy’s upcoming LP Animation Station, is concerned about technology’s hold over human lives.
With so much to going on, all delivered in just under 4 minutes, Anvils is sure to keep listeners enthralled for some time yet… at least until the LP drops.
