There is only one week to go before the electoral roll for the marriage equality survey closes on August 24. There are still currently 810, 000 Australians that are not enrolled with the majority being aged 18 to 24.
Not only is enrolling important, but making sure your address is correct is crucial to ensure the postal ballot is received and returned in time. That sounds super obvious, but given those in their late teens and early twenties move house more than anyone else, many enrollment details are almost never up to date!
Some people may be angry or indifferent and have suggested boycotting the plebiscite, but actively participating in the vote is the best way to ensure the views of young people are represented fairly and strongly in the result.
Many Labor Members of Parliament in WA will be door-knocking this weekend to encourage people to enroll, as well as holding events like Jessica Shaw’s Marriage Equality BBQ.
